Work Period: Internship positions available year-round. Start
and end dates flexible. Position is full-time or part-time, depending on
intern’s availability. Must maintain regular schedule.
Compensation: Unpaid. We will assist in arranging credit for
students through their schools.
Internship Title: Bookkeeping Intern
Internship Description: Intern will work with our Finance Director
on a variety of accounting tasks in a not-for-profit multi-organizational
environment. Assist with weekly accounts payable, monthly bank reconciliations,
journal entries, financial statements and quarterly payroll withholding reports.
Number of Positions Available: One
Qualifications: Ability to use a computer; general knowledge of accounting;
attentiveness to detail; enthusiasm, and willingness to tackle new projects.
Internship Title: Communications Intern
Internship Description: Intern will work with communications
director on a variety of environmental issues, media outreach,
and organizational publications. Intern will assist in scheduling
and organizing press conferences, work directly with the media, write
for Environmental Advocates’ various publications, and assist in
scheduling environmental forums around the state.
Number of Positions Available: One

in environmental protection and learning about state legislative and regulatory
processes; enthusiasm, and willingness to tackle new projects.
Internship Title: Computer Information Systems Intern
Internship Description: Intern will work with Coordinator of
Information Resources managing a Windows NT server running a LAN with Windows
Windows 95/NT clients. Assist in the management and
enhancement of the organization’s statewide media, legislative and
organizational/contact information systems. Maintain and update web site. Develop and
and manage database system.
Number of Positions Available: Two

interest in environmental protection and learning about state legislative
and regulatory processes; enthusiasm, and willingness to tackle new projects.
Title: Development/Fundraising Intern
Internship Description: Intern will work with development team to implement and
execute our organization’s fast-paced, diverse fundraising program. The intern
will receive hands-on experience assisting with special events, major donor campaigns,
direct mail, foundation grants, prospect researching, merchandise sales, and other
fundraising strategies. Intern will also have opportunities to help conceptualize,
draft, and edit various publications, letters, brochures, and fundraising materials.

Title: Environmental Law Intern
Internship Description: Intern will work with attorney on staff on a variety of
environmental issues including brownfields remediation, air and water quality protection,
and open space and public access. Intern will have the opportunity to conduct legal research,
participate in state level policy development, and possibly draft legislation. Spring and
summer interns will learn the legislative process and participate in direct lobbying,
negotiations and meetings with policymakers on key environmental issues in the State Capitol.

Title: Public Policy Intern
Internship Description: The intern will learn about state regulatory and legislative processes and
be exposed to a range of current environmental issues. We will work with the intern to design an
appropriate project, based on the intern’s interest areas and skills, Environmental Advocates’
needs at the time, and the availability of program staff to provide adequate supervision. Intern
will perform a variety of substantive assignments, including: research, writing, lobbying, coalition
building, and outreach. Environmental Advocates’ current issue areas include: air quality, energy
conservation and renewables, pesticide use reduction and right-to-know, brownfields remediation,
urban environmental health, solid waste reduction, Adirondack and open space protection, and
other environmental and public health issues. Spring and summer interns will be fully exposed
to New York’s legislative process, through lobbying, monitoring the State Legislature, and participating
in meetings with policymakers on key environmental issues.
