ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCATES IS:
"The most influential environmental group in Albany."
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
In December 1994, Environmental Advocates celebrated its first 25 years
of leadership in protecting New York State's environment. Over the past
quarter century, we have become a respected presence in the Capitol,
well known for our work to keep the Legislature informed on
environmental issues, and for our outreach efforts around the state to
build coalitions for advocacy on a wide range of issues. Through our
publications and our work with the media, we hold legislators
accountable for their actions. Through research and analysis, we often
take the lead in proposing solutions to environmental problems. In
striving to represent New York's environmental community, we have been
informative, non-partisan, and vigilant. The environmental movement in
America has achieved much in the last 30 years, but today many people
are asking how it can be more effective? The federal government will
always have a key role in environmental protection because the land
belongs to all of us, and air and water quality in one state are
affected by what is done in another. But we have learned that more
responsibility for environmental protection must be taken at the local
and state level. Environmental Advocates and other groups like us
around the country need to be more active than ever. We are
well-positioned to meet this challenge. With a professional staff of
experienced, energetic and committed advocates we are
addressing the major environmental issues facing the state. Foundations
recognize Environmental Advocates' expertise, and are supporting us
generously. Their aid, however, can only meet a part of our needs. And
growing support from members and friends will signal to lawmakers just
how much New Yorkers care about preserving their environment. Thank you
for being environmental advocates yourselves.
